Snaps, Fancies and Frivolities

My last view of the Mogambo this morning, as she headed out of Bristol. Full set here.

Spring appears in Bristol.

The Internet is not a single street in which competition is so fierce that two competing services can only compete on price. Software is so nuanced that any differentiator, no matter how small, is enough to carve out a niche that makes building the service worthwhile.

Now I may find Word to be an unreliable, inflexible buttonageddon of a writing application, but if it works for you and gets the job done, why bother changing? It’s only the words that really matter.

“Buttonageddon” *snigger*.

Knowing no more than you do right now, I can guarantee you: the iPad 3 will disappoint a lot of armchair tech commentators, “analysts”, and anyone who gets paid by the pageview. (How convenient.)

I like this “behind the scenes” photo of my picture of Brian. Brian is an aspidistra I bought yesterday, and is also now the background image for Brian the Debugger. (If you’re not familiar with the process of talking to inanimate objects in order to solve your problems, it honestly is an accepted technique known generically as “rubber ducking”, though I’ve personally always used pot plants.)

I think the actual photo I was taking for the website background came out really well, and I love the contrast between that pure, crisp, white-backgrounded photo and this piece of crap, taken at the same time in the same conditions, but on an iPhone and with no care at all.

Spotted this at the start of the Portway, just round the corner from me, on my way home. It’s on the A4 westbound, on the side of the flyover that heads off towards Ashton Gate. Lovely piece of work, beautifully done.
